Employee Spotlight: Ehsan Ordouie, Lead Optical Engineer at Exowatt

Ehsan Ordouie, our Lead Optical Engineer, tells us about his path to Exowatt, what drives his work, and how physics and purpose come together in his role.

How did you know Exowatt was the right place for you?
I’ve always been fascinated by climate solutions, especially solar energy—it's the ultimate, limitless source of clean power. When I came across Exowatt and saw how the team is envisioning a modular, dispatchable solar solution, it just clicked. The technology and physics behind it excite me, but the mission excites me even more.

How did your background prepare you for the role?

II’ve spent more than a decade working in optics and photonics, exploring a range of applications and designing related systems. That experience translates directly to my work at Exowatt, where we’re turning solar energy into something reliable, scalable, and ready to deploy. It’s a fast-paced environment, but my background helps me move from concept to prototype with confidence and speed.

Have you developed new skills at Exowatt?

Absolutely. Working at a startup has made me a stronger cross-functional communicator—clearer, faster, and more focused on alignment. You learn quickly that momentum matters more than perfection; progress comes from clarity and shared context, not endless polish.

What excites you most about Exowatt’s mission?

Its immediacy and tangibility! We’re building something that can be used right now to meet today’s energy demand. Many solutions in this space feel distant or hypothetical, but the P3 is practical and ready. That’s what makes it exciting to come to work every day.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

Cooking is a big one for me. I also love listening to progressive rock and jazz. Whenever I can, I spend time in nature—it inspires me and helps me recharge. And, of course, I really value quality time with family and friends.
